Aussie scientists find transplant virus

Australian scientists have discovered a new virus that has the potential to kill recipients of organ transplants. The Victorian state Department of Human Services says it is similar to a meningitis virus that killed several transplant patients in the United States last year. The virus was discovered in Melbourne after three hospital patients died within weeks of receiving organs from the same donor. Victoria's acting Chief Health Officer, Dr. John Carnie, told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. that the virus does not pose a risk to the community as a whole as it was not believed to be an infectious disease....
