The Department is focused on diagnosis, therapy and research of malignant diseases of childhood, non-malignant haematology (blood) diseases such as anaemia, bleeding disorders and congenital coagulation disorders (haemophilia). Among other treated diseases are very demanding bone marrow transplants - such as congenital immunodeficiencies or metabolic disorders.
The Department of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology has established a close international cooperation with a number of European paediatric oncology and haematology centres and participates in international multicentric studies and research projects. Its staff are active commission members of various international corporations including the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP).
