Type of job: full-time
Workplace:
The Institute of Entomology of the Biology Centre, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, has a long-term tradition in the studies of insect circadian and photoperiodic clocks and their behavioral, physiological, molecular and genetic characterization. This research is currently performed by the activity of four mutually co-operating laboratories focused on different aspects of insect biological timekeeping and diapause. The major model species is represented by the European linden bug, Pyrrhocoris apterus, however several other novel insect model species are utilized as well. The ultimate goal of this research effort is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying the circadian and photoperiodic clocks and decipher possible interactions between these two timekeeping systems at the genetic level.
Position summary:
The position is open in the frame of project MODBIOLIN funded from 7th Framework programme (GA No. 316304, http://www.bc.cas.cz/MODBIOLIN/).
The recruited experienced researcher is expected to closely collaborate with the established research teams of the Institute of Entomology, and to significantly contribute to our current understanding of the molecular and genetic interactions of the circadian and photoperiodic clock genes and their products in the studied model organisms. The methodological approach will be based on the reverse genetics involving identification of genes of interests, assessing their function by RNA interference (RNAi), generation and characterization of recombinant proteins for the production of specific antibodies, and the temporal and spatial analyses of the studied gene products in the insect central nervous system and peripheral tissues. A substantial experience with the laser scanning confocal microscopy, bioluminescence imaging system, and the software image analysis processing is a crucial pre-requisite for this advertised position.
Duration of contract:
Selected candidate will be offered a position for maximum 2 years (21 - 24 months depending on the start date of employment) with a salary ~2200 EUR brutto per month (3000 EUR super brutto).
Employment starting within the period October 1, 2013 - January 1, 2014 (to be agreed with an applicant); termination date September 30, 2015. Possible future cooperation and its conditions to be discussed towards the end of above mentioned period.
Qualifications:
Interested candidates must have successfully obtained their Ph.D., and should complete at least three years postdoctoral stay out of the Czech Republic or Slovakia. The expertise of the candidate in the field of insect chronobiology should be substantiated by the appropriate publication record. A good knowledge of English language is required.
How to apply:
Interested candidates should apply no later than September 5, 2013 by submitting the following documents and information to Ivo Sauman (sauman@entu.cas.cz), CC to Veronika Zazvorkova (zazvorkova@bc.cas.cz): (1) Cover letter explaining the candidate's interest in the position; (2) Detailed CV including a list of publications and other achievements; (3) Certified academic transcripts and diplomas (scanned copies); (4) List of minimally two referees who can testify on the candidate´s character and performance.
Announcement of results:
The Evaluation Committee will convene in September 2013 and candidates will be immediately informed of the results (on September 13, 2013 at latest).
