Global BioExecutive Program

Date: 2.3.2006

This is the last week to register for the Global BioExecutive Program at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business Center for Executive Development. Register now to reserve your space and join world renowned faculty from Columbia, Harvard, and UC Berkeley, industry experts such from Merck, Genentech, Chiron, and other top bioscience firms (click "here":[ http://www.prologueinternational.com/globalbioex/GlobalBioExecutive2006Flyer.pdf] for brochure). Presented in a modular format, the program covers the complete process covering innovation, portfolio decisions of investment in corporate development and emerging companies, product positioning and branding, pricing and reimbursement, strategic alliances, clinical trial strategies, regulatory requirements, manufacturing choices, and safety. An elective workshop on Managing Scientists and Technical staff is also offered. The whole program draws upon merging the invaluable experience of leading industry executives and knowledge of world renowned faculty. **Module 1: Managing Risk in Development & Commercialization March 8,9 & 10** Module 1 looks at the entire chain of development: the players, forces and issues interacting within. Participants will discuss the risks inherent in bringing drugs and devices to market and the strategies that companies employ across the value chain to mitigate those risks. A - R&D and Pre-clinical Testing Phases B - Clinical Testing Phases C - Commercialization Phases Elective: Managing Scientists & Technical Staff March 17 Post-graduate academic training – with its emphasis on knowledge-driven, individual contributions – doesn’t prepare people for employment in the profit-driven, team-oriented pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Most Ph.D.s and MDs begin working in the industry with an insufficient understanding of the drug development process and basic people and project management skills. This session will offer practical advice and exercises that show scientists and managers how to interact with others in ways that improve their effectiveness and increase their productivity. The workshop shows how to apply improved self awareness and interpersonal skills to specific problems that science professionals encounter every day. **Module 2: Global Product Marketing & Management March 29 & 30** Successful product marketing and management starts in the early phases of the R&D process, not after successful clinical trials. Understanding how to brand a therapy and make it attractive to payers is the key to successful and profitable products. A - Branding and Launch B - Pricing and Reimbursement **Module 3: Outsourcing the Value Chain April 25, 26 & 27** A decade ago, the most successful bioscience business model was the fully-integrated biopharmaceutical company. Today, companies operate all along the drug/device discovery value chain and no company can exist without a robust alliance and partnership strategy. This module will explore the fundamentals of successful – and unsuccessful - partnerships. A - Alliances and Partnership Strategies B - Alliances and Partnership Execution Capstone: New Trends in Markets and Technologies This special capstone will provide broad coverage of the life science market and technology landscape. It includes market intelligence, commentary, and opinion focusing on the market and technology trends in life sciences, how these trends impact business challenges, and the implications for companies. This CAPSTONE will be led by IMS Health and will feature key industry leaders, providing business executives a comprehensive market intelligence service. Coverage spans (but is not limited to): * eClinical trials * Generic biologics * Nanotechnology * State-sponsored stem cell initiatives * Energy * Bioterrorism * Personalized Therapies * Rapid DNA sequencing * New IT systems and platforms For more information please click "here":[ https://execdev.haas.berkeley.edu/BioExec].
