Government seeks new rules on biofuel

Date: 17.10.2005

Minister of Environment Libor Ambrozek is looking for a new system to govern support for boiethanol production after the Cabinet June 16, 2005 canceled a highly controversial tender that allowed a monopoly by five selected distilleries. As of 2007, the country is obliged to mix fossil fuels with cleaner bioethanol, and the time for building and equipping the distilleries that will produce the new fuel is running out. The failed tender’s bizarre conditions, as conceived by the Ministry of Environment (MŽP), infuriated many of the bidders who, if the tender weren’t canceled, planned on filing lawsuits with both the Constitutional Court and the European Commission. Insiders say the government should be particularly careful with what it’s going to suggest this time. For more information please click "here.":[ http://cbw.cz/phprs/2005062707.html]
