Introduction and biotech projects of the new Czech company ADM

Date: 5.5.2006

ADM a.s. is fast growing company focused on high-tech in biomaterials. Its research activities include advanced dental materials based on fiber reinforeced composites, bioadhesives, and scaffolds for soft tissues. More information abou company "www.dentapreg.com":[ http://www.dentapreg.com]. --- !!!Biotech projects **BIOADHESIVE** The main goal of the research is to create heterogeneous injectable composite adhesives for repair of damaged bone a tooth tissue in the human body. The adhesive matrix material will consist of a hydrogel of a biocompatible, biodegradable tri-block copolymer of PLA-PGA-PEG. The matrix will be reinforced with a high concentration of bimodal or trimodal mixtures of core/shell particles consisting of a core of -tricalcium phosphate and a shell of copolymer similar in organic composition to that of the matrix. The composite adhesive structure will be designed to provide desired balance of strength and porosity required for the support of the damaged bone and the regeneration of new bone tissue. The temporal strength and porosity of the heterogeneous adhesive will be controlled by appropriate choice of copolymer compositions of the matrix and particle shells. The primary objectives of the research will be to characterize the effects of the molecular composition and composite structure on the in-vivo effectiveness of the heterogeneous adhesive with respect to its ability to bond to a damaged bone, to support a load in the absence of internal pins or other supports and to stimulate the regeneration of new bone tissue. If desirable, the tri-block copolymer could also contain reactive peptide end groups for stimulation of bioactivity during tissue regeneration. The in vivo animal tests will be used to finalize material composition, while monitoring the speed and quality of ingrowth in the living bone tissue and enhancement of bone healing. Results from these tests will be used in a later stage of the project in in vitro and in vivo tests on humans. **SCAFFOLDS FOR TISSUE ENGINEERING** The project deals with preparation of new biocompatible block copolymers with controlled life time, optimized physical and mechanical properties and specific functions and scalling up their syntheses from laboratory to industrial scale. In addition, new application fields will be explored in order to support further development and growth of the applications of functional block copolymers in various areas of chemical industry and special chemicals indistry including production of biomaterials.
