The Journal of Neurogenetics publishes papers involving genetic and molecular neurobiology. This covers studies of genes and genetic variants in that influence neural development (pattern formation and cell differentiation) and function (physiology, neurochemistry, and behavior). We encourage submission of neurogenetic investigations performed on organisms ranging from microbes (such as bacteria and paramecia) to metazoans. The latter traditionally encompass nematodes, Drosophila, mouse, and humans, which have been particularly suited to genetic and molecular studies of the nervous system. But we also encourage submission of reports involving studies performed on any organism that permits the application of genetic variations or molecular-genetic materials to analysis of neurobiological phenomena--recognizing that these approaches are expanding to species, such as zebrafish, ranging beyond the more classical systems. In addition to original articles, short communications and reviews are welcome (see \"Instructions for Authors\"). We also publish groups of abstracts, especially (but limited to) those associated with neurogenetic conferences that occur on a regular basis. The Institute of Scientific Information Journal Citations Report for 2003 ranks Journal of Neurogenetics 112th out of 198 journals in Neurosciences (Science) and 75th out of 120 journals in Genetics & Heredity (Science), with an impact factor of 1.889.
