Localisation of resistance genes to Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei in new sources of Hordeum vulgre ssp. spontaneum using molecular markers

Project:  Localisation of resistance genes to Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei in new sources of Hordeum vulgre ssp. spontaneum using molecular markers

Research institute: Masaryk University Brno, Department of Genetics and Molecular Biology

Description:
The objective of the proposed project is to study the mode of inheritance and to localize resistance genes in 15 selected original and efficient sources of powdery mildew resistance using molecular markers in Hordeum vulgare. For this purpose particularly codominant SSR markers have been used. Bulk-segregant analysis are used to isolate polymorphic DNA markers. These have been used for a further analysis of the complete segregating F2 generation. The integration of new resistance genes in the genetic map of barley will be conducted with combined application of resistance data and DNA marker data. Implementation of the project will enable to select progenies combining several fully efficient resistance genes with the application of tightly linked DNA markers. It will start up qualitative change in possibilities and methods for breeding barley for powdery mildew resistance in the Czech Republic. Results obtained for the mode of inheritance and the localization of original resistance genes with the DNA markers will be published jointly.
