PhD/postdoc position in the Centre of Reconstructive Neuroscience (NeuroRecon)

Type of job: full-time

Project description:

Study of alterations of the extracellular matrix in the central nervous system during pathological conditions.

Alterations of the extracellular matrix (ECM) components during pathophysiological conditions in the central nervous system (CNS) can have significant consequences on the behaviour of neurons and glia. The aim of the project is to study the pathophysiological roles of the ECM in the CNS, particularly hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulphate proteoglycans (CSPGs) molecules after various CNS insults, such as spinal cord injury, neurodegenerative diseases, during ageing or after various interventions. The role of the particular ECM molecules in the pathophysiology, inflammation and regeneration processes will be evaluated using biochemical and molecular biology methods.

Requirements:

The successful applicant should have an education in biochemistry, biology or medical science and have a good proficiency in English. Experience with molecular biology, biochemistry, animal work and surgery, is advantageous. The successful applicant will also have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and be highly-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of the international team of NeuroRecon Centre.
