Position in basic research focused on Parkinson's disease

The director of Central European Institute of Technology CEITEC MU is announcing a selection procedure for the postdoctoral research position in basic research - study on genetic animal model of Parkinson's disease using brain neuroimaging in strong magnetic fields. Applied Neurosciences Research Group in collaboration with Experimental and Applied Neuropsychopharmacology Group at CEITEC MU (Central European Institute of Technology, Brno, Czech Republic) is seeking applicants with interest and dedication to the following basic research topic: Evaluation (phenotyping) of selected animal models of Parkinson's disease using brain neuroimaging in high magnetic fields.

What we expect:

• PhD studies completed between March, 2008 and the date of expected start, i.e. 1st October, 2012
• experience in behavioural research on animal models
• excellent English
• publications in impacted journals
• keen interest in the research group programme and in its development
• knowledge of and experience in brain MRI in animal models is welcome
• experience in transgenic animal models research of neurodegenerative diseases is welcome

What we can offer:

• facilities of a respected and successful institution, specifically MRI facility at the Czech Academy of Sciences: structural, functional (arterial spin labeling , fMRI), metabolic (MR spectroscopy) MRI, and help of the team of physicists in MRI data analyses
• transgenic model (α-Synuclein transgenic mice overexpressing human wild type alpha-synuclein under the regulatory control of the human PDGF-ß promoter)
• close cooperation with established teams of basic and clinical researchers at CEITEC MU involved in animal behavioral studies and in human clinical and neuroimaging research of neurodegenerative diseases
