Description: | |
Electroactivity of nucleic acids was discovered by the principal investigator about 40 yers ago. Great amount of knowledge, experience and know-how which accumulated in his laboratory during the past time will be now concentrated to the basic and oriente d research to create a solid base for the development of DNA hybridization sensors. Interactions of nucleic acids and model compounds with electrodes will be studied to find and characterize electrode processes best suited for the sensitive detection of the hybridization event. Special attention will be devoted to high electron yield catalytic processes. DNA hybridization at different surfaces will be investigated to eliminate or decrease non-specific adsorption of DNA and improve the specificity of the surface DNA hybridization. New approaches will be sought (i) to overcome the difficultuies in the analysis of long target DNAs, and (ii) to develop low-cost, fast response electrochemical devices for the DNA diagnostics. |
