Recombinant Antibodies; Applications in Plant Science and Plant Pathology

Authors: Karen Harper, Angelika Ziegler
Publishing: CRC Press
Published: October 1, 1999
For graduates and senior undergraduates in plant science or pathology or biotechnology, the two research scientists at the Scottish Crop Research Institute in Dundee describe all the techniques required to produce such antibodies and to apply them to plants. Following an introduction to the concepts of antibody-antigen binding, they explain methods for cloning and selecting single chain variable fragments and dedicated vectors for expressing them in bacteria for diagnostic purposes. Then they move on to other applications besides diagnosis, such as developing virus-resistant lines, creating plants with altered metabolism, and using plants as bioreactors to produce and store recombinant antibodies
