Red wine components modulate tissue damage induced by bacteria in gum diseases

Date: 4.4.2006

Researchers are finding that components found in red wine can help in preventing and treating inflammatory periodontal diseases. Periodontitis is a progressive infectious disease affecting the gums and bone that surround and support teeth, often causing tooth movement and leading to permanent tooth loss. About 15% of adults between 21 and 50 years of age and 65% of adults over 50 are affected by this disease. "Source":[ http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2006-03/iaa-rwc022806.php].
