London, UK, 12th February 2014 SynBioBeta announced that it will be hosting its second annual conference on 3rd April 2014 at Imperial College London featuring a mix of panel discussions and talks from startups, industry players, investors and partners in the growing synthetic biology ecosystem. The conference will be held in conjunction with the new Synthetic Biology Innovation and Knowledge Centre SynbiCITE.
The conference program will kick off with the keynote presentation by Rt Hon David Willetts MP, Minister for Universities and Science, UK Government, followed by topics including: Renewables in theBioeconomy, Gene and Genome Design and Synthesis, Synthetic Biology Investor Round Table, Pharma and Healthcare and more.
Synthetic biology is a growing, new area of research with the goal of making biology easier to engineer. The field is now transitioning from the laboratory to industry, and the UK government has identified it as one of the eight great technologies that it is investing in.
“We are now seeing an exponential growth in the number of synthetic biology startups year after year,” says Dr. John Cumbers, founder of SynBioBeta. “As the cost of writing DNA falls, we see a range of new startup companies entering the synthetic biology market competing with a number of established players.”
Like its successful counterpart last year, SynBioBeta Activate! at The 6th International Conference on Synthetic Biology (SB6.0), the conference will provide plentiful networking opportunities beginning with the Welcome Reception on Wednesday evening and the Cocktail Reception immediately following the conference on Thursday 3rd of April.
Supporters of the conference include Autodesk, On-Point Capital, GenScript, as well as UK Trade and Investment and Integrated DNA Technologies.
