The most important meeting for biotechnology industry in Central Europe was held in Brno

On the 23rd-24th of May the biggest and the most important meeting for biotechnology industry in Central Europe was held in Brno in Czech Republic. The event was meant to gather scientists, businessmen, journalists, students and all those who are simply interested in this matter. The representatives of the following countries participated in this event: Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland.

Among over 60 exhibitors there were startup companies, for e.g Clinical Investigation (HU), Histopatology (HU), Genomed (PL), BioVendor (CZ )but also some of the top-ranked market players - Merck Millipore, Abbott, Sandoz and more. The conference schedule included a lot of lectures and seminars led by world-class experts. Those lectures were mainly focused around "hot topics" of contemporary innovative biobusiness: bio-tech biosimilars, business models for personalized medicine, clinical trials and success factors in biotechnology - just to name a few. BioForum have shown the current biotechnology potential in Central Europe. Keynote speakers were: Magda Chlebus, Director Science Policy at the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations; Jens Dhein, Scientific Director of Abbott Molecular; Steffen Wagner, Head Commercial Operations Central&Eastern Europe at Sandoz; Dr. Erik Lund, Director, Worldwide Licensing, Merck MSD; Emerson Smith, President, Metromark Healthcare Research Center in Columbi.

The 11th Central European Forum of Biotechnology and Innovative BioEconomy BioForum 2012 is a great way to discover an impressive potential of biotechnology in Central Europe. Today the strongest centers of innovative biobusiness are located in United States and Asia. Biotechnology industry also becomes more and more important sector of economy in South America, particularly in such countries like Brazil, Argentina and Chile. BioForum is becoming the center of innovative biobusiness that integrates all the activities of biotechnology companies and the science-research teams of Central Europe. The partnership within Central Europe dynamically speeds up the development of innovative biobusiness in particular countries of this region, as well as it makes the region more attractive for the global biotechnology leaders. This approach proves itself very clearly, because all previous editions of the conference were really successful, making BioForum one of the most prestigious bio-tech events around the world. That is why BioForum constantly attracts the investors and the companies with the most promising growth potential. It also gathers the part of the science society that is innovative and creative, wide opened for any kind of partnership. BioForum also gives a warm welcome to those students, who tie their future with the biotechnology and innovative biobusiness.

BioForum attracts the representatives of the strongest centers of global biobusiness. One of the most meaningful initiatives run by BioForum was BioPartnering which involves the series of precisely scheduled business meetings strictly among the potential partners: investors, company managers and scientists. Today BioPartnering is valued as the best platform for building partnership between science and business and also as the great way to gain promising business contacts. The conference attendees had a chance to find out about it's outstanding efficiency.

The BioForum 2012 organizers had also an interesting proposal for all those students who wanted to connect their professional future with the biotechnology industry. The "Career Day" which  was led by HAYS Czech Republic (which is the part of one of the biggest global recruitment agencies) was also a great place to be for young scientists who are going to start their own companies. During the event HAYS adviced about their career path, presented the job opportunities and also invited for a closed meetings with the biobusiness representatives.

The prestigious prize "Master of Innovation" was awarded for the third time at BioForum 2012. The main goal of the prize is to highlight those companies that are in possession of the most interesting business strategies and are effectively implementing them. The valuation of all nominees were conducting by the professional jury. The award went to Lipid Systems from Wroclaw (PL).

During BioForum 2012 also "The best R&D team" contest was held.  In terms of the organized competition, the basis of evaluation of R&D projects were following guidelines: Intelectual Property value, scientific and business potential. The main award 5000 €, founded by Bogdan Lang, USP Life Sciences, went to research team from Palacký University in Olomouc, led by Miroslav Strnad. On the behalf of the research team the award was received by Lukáš Spíchal.

The first foreign edition of BioForum can certainly be considered as a success. The vast majority of participants, both exhibitors and visitors, was satisfied. The high standard of the panel sessions made ​​a lecture hall virtually full for two days. Due to the fact that a lot of debutant enterprises participated in BioForum as exhibitors the habitues had unique occasion for networking and meeting new potential business partners.
