Undergraduate Cancer Research Training Program, Los Angeles

 

The Undergraduate Cancer Research Training Program (UCRTP) is a 12?week research program for outstanding undergraduates who are contemplating careers in biomedical?related fields and working with underserved communities. UCRTP is a summer internship hosted by Charles Drew University (CDU) , in partnership with the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center at UCLA. An individualized program is developed for each trainee who will work with a faculty mentor at CDU or UCLA . Each trainee will work on a research project (topics include but not limited to molecular, cell, developmental biology and genetics of cancer; the influence of nutrition, diet, exercise on cancer risk; and translatingonal basic research into therapeutic agents for patient benefits), learn procedures on the laboratory workbench, present progress reports at weekly lab meetings, lead one Journal Club meeting. To complete the program, each undergraduate trainee will write a research paper based on their findings that is submitted to the mentor for evaluation and feedback. Students will have an opportunity to present the paper at a scientific conference. We have two internship tracks: May21-Aug10 or June 18-Sept7.The application deadline is February, 1, 2012.
