Leader of the Department of Bioenergetics

Type of job: full-time

ELIGIBILITY:

Academic qualification in relevant field at PhD level or higher

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Academic merit as documented by peer-reviewed publications
  • Research programme and its relevance to Institute of Physiology
  • Capability to attract external funding in a relevant research field
  • Leadership/management skills and the ability to supervise students

APPLICATION AND EVALUATION PROCEDURE:

Stage 1

The following credentials must be supplied electronically to Institute‘s office (fgu@biomed.cas.cz) by 15 August 2013:

  • Professional CV including candidate's entire publication list, citation record, invited lectures, awards, previously obtained research grants, supervision and teaching experience, local and international collaborations and other relevant information
  • List of up to 8 most important publications with a brief outline of their scientific importance (up to 2 pages A4)
  • Research proposal outlining the team's anticipated focus (up to 2 pages A4)
  • Current research funding relevant to the research team, the possibility to transfer it to Institute of Physiology (external candidates only), and a list of submitted and anticipated grant applications
  • Names and e-mail addresses of at least two academic referees

Applications will be evaluated by a screening committee consisting of (i) Institute's director, (ii) two other members of Director's Board appointed by the director, and (iii) members of Institute's Council appointed by the Council's chairperson. Within 15 days of the application deadline, the committee will short-list up to 3 candidates and immediately notify them by e-mail.

Stage 2

Within 30 days of being notified, the short-listed candidates will be expected to electronically submit to Institute´s office (fgu@biomed.cas.cz) an English-written full research proposal (up to 15 pages A4). The proposal should include:

  • Detailed research program of the team, including goals, strategies and anticipated results
  • Financial and personnel plan
  • Space/infrastructure and equipment requirements for the coming 5 years
  • Certified copies of academic qualifications at PhD level or higher (CSc., DrSc., DSc. etc.) The applications will be evaluated by an Expert Committee consisting of one member of Institute's Council (appointed by the Council's chairperson) and external specialists (i.e., non-members of the Institute) appointed by Institute's director, based on suggestion(s) put forward by Institute's Council. The external specialists are expected to be reputable figures of national or international standing. PRESENTATION and INTERVIEW

The candidates pre-selected in Stage 1 will also be invited to personally present themselves by delivering a public lecture at the Institute of Physiology, within 30 days of the 2nd round's application deadline, this being part of the evaluation procedure. An interview will follow with members of the Expert Committee, Director's Board and Institute's Council.

FINAL DECISION:

Within 15 days of the interview, the Expert Committee will produce a detailed written evaluation of

each candidate, summarizing his/her abilities. The successful candidate(s) will be selected by Institute's director upon consulting the Institute's Council. Final results will be announced within 60 days of the 2nd round's application deadline. Institute of Physiology and reserves the right not to select any candidate.
