In preparing the project we were able to make maximum use of more than 40 years of experience of th Mayo Clinic and its leading specialists in running its own centre for clinical reseach, which is currently the biggest in the world. The mayo Clinic will play a significant role, above all, in ensuring shared research projects in the field of independent and industrial research, long-term training, providing personnel for shared research projects as well as expert running of the centre. Also of importance is cooperation wuith commercial application of shared results from R&D and linking ICRC to the academic institutions and industrial companies with which the Mayo Clinic has long-term cooperation.
Where do the project’s financial resources come from?
The project will be achieved with funds outside of the government’s budget, such as income from privatisation, profits from state enterprizes etc. The ministeries’ existing budgets wil be untouched. On the contrary, their budgets will be strengthened by these additional incomes. To quote from the relevant passage of the proposed government resolution.
“The government agrees to the use of a sum of 1 796 million Czech crowns for the period 2006 – 209 to cover costs associated with implementing the project ICRC Brno, in accordance with the conditions laid out in attachment 1 of this resolution, from funds from privatisation….”
What kind of establishment is the International Research Clinic?
ICRC Brno is a de facto conceptually new type of technology park, specialising in medical science and industrial applications in the field of drugs and pharmaceuticals. Its main role is to obtain international R&D projects for the Czech Republic in the fields of industrial research, financial resources from grant agencies in the USA and the European community and industrial high-tech production with high added value in the drugs and pharmaceutical industry.
It is not qualitativny possible to create a whole new basic type of ICRC by reconstruction of the existing premises. To achieve the centre’s aims a completely new building is required. Transfer of operations to the new centre will incur only minimal losses. No new cardiological or cardio-surgical workplace will be create.
