The Faculty of Horticulture offers structured bachelor, master and doctoral study programmes in both full-time and part-time form in the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). There are some specially equipped facilities for studying at students' disposal (glasshouses for tropical and subtropical plants, laboratories, cellars etc.), extensive assortments of ornamental and utility plants and unique gene-pool collections of fruit plants, grapevine, perennial vegetables and medicinal plants - everything is placed directly in the faculty campus.
The academic year is divided into two semesters (winter and summer semester), each of them lasting 14 teaching weeks. Each semester is followed by a six- to seven-week examination period. Most of the courses are compulsory. Students can study their courses in Czech and some of them in English as well. At the moment, there are about 1,100 students studying at the Faculty of Horticulture every year. The faculty has adopted the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and one study programme and some courses are offered in English language.
Faculty offers three- or four-year bachelor study programmes. Successful students can then continue their studies in the two year master programme. Graduates are awarded the degree of "Inženýr" (i.e. Engineer, in abbr. Ing.). To finish their studies students must pass the final state exam and defend their final year dissertation.
Faculty of Horticulture also organises doctoral study programmes in Horticulture and Landscape Architecture which take four years of studies. Participants in these programmes are graduates from the Master's programme. The programme is completed by the Ph.D. state exam and defence of the Ph.D. thesis. In addition it must be mentioned that the Faculty of Horticulture is also participating in academic exchange programmes and organizing workshops, conferences and seminars. Most of these activities are held in English.
