The Department of Special Animal Breeding provides education in cattle, pig, poultry, sheep, horse, fur animals, rabbits, laboratory animal breeding, horse riding/reproduction and the insemination of livestock at all faculties at the Czech University of Agriculture. Education in horse breeding and riding is partly organized at the riding stables in ŠZP Lány-Suchdol. Practical training sessions encourage teamwork between students.

The department is also involved with the Programme for Protection of Genetic Resources of Rabbits and Coypus. Research in the pig arena is primarily based at the specialized test station in Ploskov, the station is supplied with state of the art technology for the testing and research of pigs. The department also boasts three laboratories for milk, meat and reproduction testing. Results from this scientific work are published in specialized and scientific journals, and in conferences held in the Czech Republic and abroad.
