Department of Plant Physiology
The Department was established in January 2000 from the activity of people working in two research institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, the Department of Photosynthesis of the Institute of Plant Molecular Biology and the Department of Photosynthetic Organisms of the Institute of Microbiology. This, together with our engagement in the Centre of Photosynthesis Research, determines the main research orientations of the Department.
The research covers environmental plant physiology, biochemistry and biophysics of photosynthesis and is focused to several dominant areas. Regulation of photosynthesis in algae and cyanobacteria is studied on
molecular level, with respect to environmentally important questions of natural variability of irradiance
and nutrients. Institute cooperates with Institute of Plant Molecular Biology AS CR, Institute of Microbiology AS CR and Institute of Cellular and Molecular Botany at the University of Bonn.
